Venice cruise ship terminals are located inside the Venetian Lagoon, which is connected to the Adriatic Sea through a narrow entrance known as the Porto di Lido. The main cruise facilities operate near the 4 km causeway linking Venice’s historic centre with the mainland. This strategic position allows convenient access to road and water transportation services.
The Port of Venice consists of two main cruise terminal areas:
Both terminals are equipped with passenger facilities, including left-luggage storage services.
Marittima is the largest cruise basin in Venice, featuring multiple terminal buildings and extensive docking space capable of accommodating several large ships at the same time. One of its main advantages is its proximity to Piazzale Roma, the primary access point for cars, taxis, and buses entering Venice. This makes Marittima the most practical cruise terminal for road-based transfers.
San Basilio Pier serves smaller cruise ships and river vessels and is located along the Giudecca Canal. It stretches toward the Fondamenta Zattere, a promenade running along the southern edge of Venice’s historic centre. This terminal is typically quieter and is used for boutique cruise itineraries.
Marittima Cruise Terminal is within walking distance of Piazzale Roma, allowing easy onward travel by road transport.
During the cruise season, a free shuttle bus operates between the cruise terminal and Piazzale Roma on selected days, usually Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays. From Piazzale Roma, passengers can continue their journey by airport bus or a pre-booked private transfer.
Another convenient option is the People Mover, a cable-operated tram system connecting Marittima Cruise Terminal, Piazzale Roma, and the Tronchetto parking area.
The fastest and most convenient way to travel from the cruise terminal to Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE) is by pre-booking a private road transfer.
Pre-booked transfers ensure timely pickup coordinated with cruise disembarkation schedules and eliminate the need to navigate public transport with luggage.
Private water taxi services are also available from the Venice cruise terminals. These transfers travel through the Venetian Lagoon and offer a scenic alternative to road transport.
